Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

What is Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports?

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, behavioral and academic success.

At the core, PBIS encompasses the following:

  1. Consistent, defined behavior expectations
  2. Explicit teaching of behavior expectations and procedures
  3. Positive reinforcement of behavior expectations
  4. Consistent consequence

How is PBIS funded in PUSD?

Each site is allocated $3,000 for implementation of PBIS including supplies, substitutes for training and acknowledgment systems. Training has been supported through the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) of approximately $30,000 as well as an additional $3,000 per high school site.

What is our commitment and expectation with PBIS?

Plumas Unified is joined by 2,153 other schools in California that are implementing PBIS with a commitment to supporting all learners, academically as well as socially and emotionally. PBIS is an evidenced-based school-wide framework to achieve this goal. PBIS has been in PUSD for four years now and continues to be a districtwide initiative and expectation. PBIS site teams are supported with four training days per year, with the expectation to implement all features at school sites. It is the expectation and commitment that sites will continue to advance in PBIS implementation of all key features of Tiers I and II, with fidelity, by the end of the 17-18 school year.
